18.09.2024
The Gotthard Base Tunnel is open again, and the golden autumn days are waiting for you! If you're looking to soak up the last warm rays of sunshine and enjoy natureās vibrant colors, it's time to head to Ticino. While the midlands are already transitioning into a rainy autumn, sunny days and pleasantly mild temperatures await you in the south. We've gathered some tips on what to do in our sun-drenched canton this autumn. So, donāt wait ā off to Ticino!
Delicious dining in a grotto
The Grotti are a perfect example of Ticino's culinary culture. With their cool and constant temperature year-round, they were once our grandparentsā refrigerators. Today, they have become public establishments where you can dine at granite tables and benches under century-old trees. Only local products and dishes are served here: salsiccia, pork ribs, minestrone, tripe, risotto, polenta with braised meat, cheeses, and more. All of this is accompanied by a Merlot from the region.

Here youāll find a selection of Grotti where you can experience the authentic traditions of Ticino. For food enthusiasts, itās worth making a trip to Ticino on the last weekend of September to attend the Sagra dellāuva, one of the region's most important gastronomic events. Some of our hotels also offer dining in their own Grotti, such as the Hotel America in Locarno.
Out and about in the Valle Verzasca
The Valle Verzasca is always worth a visit, especially in autumn. The water of the Verzasca is even more turquoise than in summer. How about a circular hike to the famous stone arch bridge in Lavertezzo? With the current temperatures, you might even be tempted to take a dip in the green-blue waters of the Verzasca.

BikeānāWine in Mendrisiotto
On the BikeānāWine Tour, you can explore the autumn beauty of Mendrisiotto, often referred to as the āTuscany of Switzerland,ā on two wheels while learning interesting facts about the cultivation and production of local wines. During a wine tasting amidst golden vineyards, under the shade of a pergola, and with breathtaking views of the entire region, youāll get to know the aromas and flavors of a fine Ticino wine. To top off the excursion, thereās another wine tasting where you can savor the wines a bit more deeply, accompanied by a generous aperitif featuring regional products.
Autumn festival in Ascona
The Autumn Festival on October 5th in Ascona offers the chance to experience the atmosphere of Ticino with its customs, trades, and traditions, just as they once were. Tasting typical specialties from our valleys, observing the craftsmanship of our grandparents, or even trying to immerse yourself in their daily life are all part of this event, which brings the past to life. The chestnut plays a key role in the festival and can be enjoyed in various forms. There will also be a traditional market featuring artisanal products and local specialties.

Garden of Wonders in Morcote
Hermann Arthur Scherrer was a passionate garden artist and romantic who, over the years, created his "Wundergartenā in Morcote. Inspired by his travels, he harmoniously blended history and nature. On the slopes and terraces, youāll find cypress trees, camellias, camphor trees, cedars, and much more. As you stroll through the park, there are plenty of spots to sit in the shade, take in the stunning lake views, and enjoy the peaceful tranquility.
